Scalp Health and Hair Growth

A gorgeous, full head of hair is every woman’s desire. Just like your skin, your scalp needs proper care to properly grow thick, healthy hair. While there are no shortcuts in creating and maintaining healthy hair growth and scalp skin - improvements can be achieved through daily activity with the right knowledge, tools, and products.

The scalp is similar to normal skin but with a higher concentration of large follicles that produce thicker, longer hair. Hair follicles are small, complex structures and keeping them protected and well nourished is essential for healthy hair growth and scalp health.

Preserving the health of the scalp, follicle, and surrounding tissue plays a vital role in encouraging the health and survival of your hair follicles. This is especially important if you are predisposed to genetic hair loss as it is well known that DHT (dihydrotestosterone) disrupts the natural growth cycle. Keeping your scalp moisturized, pH balanced, properly exfoliated, and free from petroleum products that can clog your follicles is essential.

Scalp Health Tips at a Glance:

  • Use pH balanced products between 4.5-5.5.
  • Ensure your scalp is properly moisturized, protected, and nourished with proper nutrients.
  • Create a Breathable Scalp Environment
  • Regularly practice scalp massaging as it may improve hair strand thickness and reduce fall out.
  • Use gentle styling practices that don’t rip, tug, or create too much tension.

1. Keep it pH balanced

Our skin’s has a protective barrier, the acid mantle, that helps reduce the risk of bacteria, dirt, and other substances that can affect our scalp health and lead to potential irritation and breakouts.

Human skin and hair have a neutral pH balance of 4.5 – 6.0. An acidic pH (0.0-4.5) in shampoo, treatments, and body products may be drying to the scalp, skin, and hair. An alkaline pH (7.0 - 14.0) can be irritating, making the skin and hair “too soft” and susceptible to dryness and irritation. Using pH balanced products within the 4.5-6.0 range will help prevent damage, dryness, and irritation.

2. Nourish and Protect

While the pH balanced products help prevent damage to the natural acid mantle… the right oils, proteins, amino acids, and nutrients can help moisturize and nourish your scalp. Beautifying Serum is a unique, highly absorbent oil complex with a strong dose of antioxidants and moisture to maintain and improve scalp health. Urgent Repair Treatment provides restructuring proteins, amino acids, and nutrients to the hair and scalp. The refreshing, “tingly” experience of menthol, camphor, and peppermint oil help to invigorate your follicles.

Additionally, sun protection is important for everyone’s scalp but especially for those that are predisposed to hair loss. The common belief that “hats cause hair loss” is simply a myth. In fact, hats can help protect the scalp and hair from UV sun damage which can accelerate the hair thinning process.

3. Breathability

Oftentimes, it is not just what is IN the products that contributes to a healthy scalp but also what is left out! Petrolatum and Mineral Oil are two common ingredients used in many skin and hair care products. Both of these petroleum based ingredients leave a heavy residue that can clog the hair follicle which can lead to follicle asphyxiation (suffocation) and even hair loss. Avoiding these two ingredients is paramount for a perfect, breathable scalp environment.

4. Circulation and Exfoliation

Circulation is key to encouraging thicker hair through optimum scalp health. A clinical study published by the US Library of Medicine* states that regular scalp massages will show a significant increase in hair thickness. The 24-week study included a daily scalp massage of 4 minutes that produced measurable improvement in hair retention and growth. The Eufora Scalp Massager is just the tool. A daily, gentle circular massage will help exfoliate your scalp while stimulating circulation (and it feels great!). Use it on a dry scalp or with your shampoo in the shower.

5. Gentle Styling Practices

Consistent tension and excessive force from tight pony tails and buns, braids, cornrows and even extensions can negatively affect your scalp (and each hair follicle). The key word here is consistently. While pulling and tugging on your hair once or twice won’t cause much harm… but pulling on the hair repeatedly loosens the hair shaft in the follicle and leads to hair loss and permanent damage and scarring. This is referred to as traction alopecia. Individual strands also become weaker and break off, reducing overall hair volume. Depending on when you catch it… traction alopecia can be reversed but if the pulling and tension continue - your hair loss can be permanent.

Scalp and Hair Loss

Powerful Ingredients for Optimum Scalp Health

As we age, so does our natural balance of hormones, vitamins, and general scalp health. These changes can lead to thinning and in the most dramatic instance, hair loss.

Unfortunately, about 40% of women experience noticeable thinning by the age of 50. The good news? There are some proven steps you can take to not only maintain the hair you have, but encourage new growth for fuller, thicker hair.

The major culprit of premature hair loss is 5-Alpha Reductase, a natural enzyme that can be found in the scalp. Testosterone, a hormone naturally produced by the body (even in women), reacts with 5-Alpha Reductase and creates DHT, a hormone known to contribute to hair loss. DHT suffocates the hair follicle and prevents it from receiving vital nutrients for healthy hair growth.  There are ways to address these changes without harsh medications or drastic procedures.

Key Ingredients to Promote Healthy Hair Growth

The Eufora ProAmino Cell Complex™ helps block 5-Alpha Reductase and prevents the creation of DHT. This proprietary blend of advanced skin care and botanical technology works synergistically above and below the scalp surface to reduce follicle atrophy and anchor the hair bulb to the scalp, leading to less fall-out.

Alpha Avocuta

Controls sebum production that can lead to a greasy appearance, redness and itching.

Coenzyme Q10

Naturally occurring human cell antioxidant that helps prevent damaging free radicals.

Licorice Extract

Provides anti-inflammatory benefits and reduces itching and flaking.

Neem Seed Oil

Provides antibacterial and antiseptic benefits to help clear the scalp while stimulating circulation.

Biotinoyl Tiptide-1, Apigenin & Oleonolic Acid

Increases scalp circulation, slowing follicle aging and hair loss. Strengthens and protects the hair follicle. Stimulates the root sheath for optimum anchoring of hair to the scalp. Helps inhibit 5-Alpha Reductase.

Aloe Vera Stem Cells

Aloe Stem Cells multiply the benefits of aloe 1000x or more to soothe and calm irritated dry skin. Loaded with polysaccharides and glycoproteins, Aloe Stem Cells help reduce inflammation and stimulate natural skin repair while promoting oxygen to the scalp, aiding in the reduction of follicle asphyxia.

The Eufora Thickening Regimen includes advanced plant-based technology and natural powerhouse ingredients to help encourage a healthy hair and scalp environment for optimum growth and retention.

A great scalp health routine combined with these powerhouse ingredients will help give a naturally beneficial boost to maintaining a healthy scalp and fuller, healthier hair growth.
