The 4 Types of Frizz

Frizz is one of the most universal problems for all hair types, textures, lengths, and styles, but not all frizz is created equal! Different types of frizz need different solutions but it doesn't have to be difficult! We’ve identified 3 main types of frizz and the recommended prescription to help you control the chaos and show up beautifully.

PS: If you’re a curly girl fighting that “fuzzy” frizz we have an entire section just for you! Check out the Eufora Perfect Curl System!

TYPE 1: Topical Frizz

No not “tropical” - although added humidity never helps! Topical frizz is one of the more common types of frizz for straight or slightly wavy hair. When the top or outer layer of your hair starts to “frizz-out” to create classic flyaways or an all around static-like look that needs to be tamed down for a smoother, sleeker, controlled style.

The Topical Frizz Fighting Prescription

Since the main culprits of frizz are dryness and damage, keeping your hair hydrated, healthy, and protected is always the right path. Styling products to help seal the cuticle and lock out humidity without adding weight will help you achieve a smooth, frizz-free style.

1. Repair and Strengthen with the right leave-in treatment
Need daily hydration and frizz control? Use Nourish Leave-In Hydration Restoring weak, brittle, and damaged hair? Use Nourish Fortifi Keratin RepairRepairing damage from overprocessing? Use Beautifying Elixirs Leave-In Repair Treatment or ElixirONE

2. Obsess Over Oils

The right oil can provide exceptional moisture, softness, and shine while helping to seal the cuticle and lock in moisture. Use Nourish Beautifying Serum as a light-weight, fast absorbing oil complex for fine to normal hair. Pure Polish is a finishing gloss designed to control frizz and flyaways while adding exceptional shine and softness without a greasy feel. Coarser hair needing stronger frizz control? Use Smooth’n Oil Therapy to nourish and protect the cuticle.

3. Style and Finish
To prevent and tame frizz, and make those pesky flyaways behave - use these lightweight, frizz controlling styling and finishing products to lock in moisture, block out humidity, and leave your hair shiny and smooth.

  • The lightweight styling cream, Behave, is a stylist favorite that works to control any style without adding weight or a “product feel” to the hair.
  • Tame is a frizz and humidity controlling finishing spray that is flexible, brushable, and provides a light hold while leaving the hair touchably soft.

TYPE 2: Damaged and Frayed Ends

If you’re experiencing frizz near the ends of your hair, you’re most likely suffering from dehydration, damage, and brittle ends. This is typically a result of damage from blow dryer abuse, hot tools, or chemical services. When your fragile hair has been beat up enough by the elements, it’s time to implement a little restorative TLC into your routine.

The Damaged and Frayed Ends Frizz Prescription

Keeping your hair healthy with reparative and protective products is the best move to maintaining gorgeously smooth and frizz free ends. Another culprit to extended damage is that those  split ends can travel up the hair shaft creating more damage along the way. Getting a trim every 5-7 weeks is an easy way to maintain hair health and prevent frazzled, split ends.

1. Repair
Use the protein restructuring Fortifi Keratin Repair to help even out the porosity and repair the outer cuticle layer of the hair.
2. Seal

3. Protect

TYPE 3: Expanded, Multi-Layered Frizz

There is no mistaking this type of frizz and if you have it… you most likely spend a lot of your styling time trying to tame the chaos (and have probably considered chemical straightening services). Often described as “poufy” - this type of frizz happens throughout the entire head of hair as your hair type has multiple patterns of curly, wavy, and straight sections which expand your hair into all sorts of different directions.

TYPE 4: Classic Curly Frizz

For all the curls out there… you are no stranger to the fuzzy, unruly frizz and tangles! The natural curls, twists, and coils in your hair cause the outer cuticle layer of your hair to lift making it prone to damage, breakage, and of course - an absolute frizz fest! Creating bouncy, well-defined, and frizz-free curls requires consistency, the right products and layering, and of course - optimizing your overall hair health!

Following the 7 steps of the Eufora Perfect Curl System is the best way to prevent and control the unpredictability of curly hair and ensure smoother, softer, well-behaved curls. Some of the key takeaways of the Perfect Curl System focus on infusing moisture, ensuring a healthy cuticle layer of your hair, and layering products in the right order to seal in moisture, lock out humidity, and keep your curls defined and healthy.

4. The Complete Curl Care Regimen
These 4 products, a wide tooth comb, and the essential microfiber towel is the perfect range of products to nourish, protect, and style your curls.

5. Product Order Matters!
It may sound simple, but the two most common mistakes made during curl care regimens is (1) not using enough product and (2) using them out of order! Always start with your Leave-In Conditioner on damp hair to allow proper penetration of conditioning agents and nourishing ingredients. Then layer on your oil to start sealing in moisture while still allowing the nourishing oils, antioxidants, and nutrients to penetrate alongside your Leave-In product. Beautifying Serum is best for fine-medium hair and Oil Therapy infusing the Smooth’n Oil complex to help tame coarser, frizzier hair. Finish by layering on your stylers such as Curl’n Defining Solution, Forming Cream, or Formation to seal the cuticle and start forming your curl.

6. Heat Protection
Whether you’re using a blow dryer for a bouncy smooth blowout, a straightening iron for a pin straight style, or curling iron to enhance curls and waves - heat damage can wreck havoc on your highly damage prone hair. Use heat protectant products like EuforaStyle Thermal Defense Prep and Retain to prevent damage from hot tool irons and blow dryers up to 428 ᐤF.

7. Frizz Control Favorites
